Hello Members and the Elevator Industry

I am happy to inform you that I recently became a member of the Board of Directors of the Elevator & Escalator Safety Foundation. I attended the February Annual General Membership Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. I attended as a Board Nominee the New Board Member Orientation presentation given by foundations Vice Chairman John Koshak. A thorough overview of the foundations History, Board, Organization, Programs, Financial, and fund raising were reviewed. We were able to witness the foundations Safe-T Rider program. This is the program that the foundation uses to educate over 500,000 children a year on the safe and proper use of elevators, escalators, and moving walks. The program was presented at the Liberty School of Canton, Georgia to its 2nd grade students. The presenters of the program were the Chairman of the foundation Robert Merlo Jr., and as the CAT ( programs character ) the club's own Steve Romnes. Congratulations go out to Steve as he is now also a new member of the Board of Directors. I had the opportunity to attend the EESFc Board of Directors meeting which is our Canadian brothers. They also thoroughly reviewed the Budgets, Financial, and fund raising of their foundation.

The second day we got to work attending to the foundations business at hand in the annual Board meeting. A thorough overview of the foundations Budgets, Financial, and fund raising were reviewed. A Stategic Planning Session was held throughout the remainder of the meeting focusing on Marketing, Fund Raising, and Expanding the Program Scope. The last order of business of the foundation was the swearing in of the new Board members of the foundation.

    We now have a voice!

The first Annual Poker Run was a success as we had a total of 70 hands played. Not to bad for a 50/50 winning hand was a flush of hearts King high by Noreen Montesano of Merrick, NY. Thanks to the NAEC, Elevator World, PSI and C.J. Anderson for helping make this event a success. The PSI/ERRC Won best single booth award proving that the cause we are promoting was well received. $1750.00 was collected which was a great way to kick off the ERRC while at the same time raise funds for the EESF. If you haven't already joined do so today. You don't need a bike to join.

The ERRC kicked off it's new organization at the Chicago Elevator Association (CEA) meeting on September 1, 2011. Founder Glenn Duncan recognized ERRC founding member Tom Sybert for his dedication to making the ERRC a reality. His volunteer effort was a intricate part of the ERRC website, and many other activities to help set up the organization. He was presented with a ERRC club vest with colors, and a special commemorative shadow box of the ERRC club patch's. Way to go Tom, a BIG thank you from the ERRC!

This months meeting was a business meeting for the CEA, with updates on the Chicago and State of Illinois elevator interpretation of A17.1. Attending committee leaders gave extensive reports on what is going on with inspections and continuing education for CEA members.

On August 28th, 2011 members of the ERRC attended the MNM RC Poker Run in support of the The Tinley Wish "Make a Wish Foundation".  Around 500 riders were in attendance and fun was had by all. The Poker Run raised a considerable amount of money for The Make a Wish Foundation which helps children and families undergoing medical treatment the opportunity for a wish to be granted. For more information visit http://www.wish.org/

Very cool that the ERRC participated in this event in support of a great cause! More photos of the event can be found in the members area of the website.

Shown in the photos below are perfect examples of how to apply your ERRC Patches to your own leather vest. As a member you'll be able to order other patches. Other patches can be found in the members only area.

I was pleasantly surprised when Glenn Duncan called up with a great idea. An idea that would unite our industry and create a push to help the EESF continue the mission that it set out to accomplish back 1991.

Seeing the potential in Glenn's idea of combining those of us who love to ride on the weekends with the love for our industry I immediately got right on creating a logo for the Elevator Riders Riding Club. After weeks of work and weeks of revisions the final logo as you see on the website was born and what a cool one it is at that.

I'm very honored to be assisting with this adventure and hope that you enjoy being part of the club. If you have suggestions on how to make it better let us know. We're venturing into some unchartered waters and hope that you enjoy the ride!
